Dear KIPE Members!

Six months have already passed since I was elected as the chairman of KIPE at Yong-Pyung Resort last July. During this time I tried to figure out several new ideas to improve the reputation of KIPE.
In my opinion, the president of KIPE should work as a humble server for all the members. The most important role of the president is to arrange proper opportunities and places for members so as to exchange their knowledge and experience through the publication of papers and attendance to conferences.
Recently I have realized that there are ninety-eight academic societies in the engineering area that are registered in the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies. This year I will emphasize on the following four activities so that KIPE can become one of the prominent groups among those ninety-eight societies.
1. I will improve the achievements which were accomplished by former presidents. Through this effort, I believe we can advance the reputation of KIPE so that KIPE could obtain a steady position among both national and international academic societies.
2. Recently, there were big expansions in the power electronics industry. Simultaneously, there is great demand for power electronic engineers because of the popularity of smart grids and electric vehicles. In accordance with this trend, I will try to have good relationships with the power electronics industry and effort in increasing the number of members of KIPE.
3. I will make an effort to develop teaching materials or text books, which can be utilized to educate or reeducate human resources in both the academia and relavant industries. Particularly, I will try to operate an industry education course, which will offer a close relationship between the academic people and the industry people.
4. I will try to raise the international reputation of the Journal of Power Electronics (JPE) in cooperation with Prof. Choi, Editor-in-chief of JPE, so that the JPE could advance into the Science Citation Index (SCI) journals.
Finally, I request that all members to be cooperative for the activities and events of KIPE in 2011. And I wish the best for the success of the business and research of our fellow members.
